So we are about 18 days into the international portion of our trip - 10 days in the North island of new zealand and 5 in Tokyo and three and a half here in Kyoto. So many adventures to share about!
For now I will just share the highlight of yesterday, may 1st. Here in Kyoto there are over 1500 Buddhist Zen, and shinto shrines. They are amazing places, rich in history and japanese identity and culture.
Yesterday we went to a shinto shrine called fusimi-inari. Normal Shinto shrines have one or two Torii- a red pi-like arch at the entrance separating the sacred from the non-sacred. This shrine had miles of pathway covered in these arches. It was spectacular. And we experienced one of the best sunset of our lives there, on the top of Mt. Inari overlooking Kyoto.
Wow, best sunset of your lives ... sounds absolutely beautiful.
